Model Monday: Sabina Karlsson

January 31, 2011 § Leave a comment

How amazing is Sabina? An eclectic mix of fire engine red hair, freckles, and an alluring grin. She has a look that makes you cock your head to the side and glare, transfixed by just how cool she is. Though there is not much information available about this Swedish/Gambian model, we do know that she began modeling at age five in Sweden.

She stands six feet tall and yes, her hair color is naturally RED! Featured on Sweden’s Next Top Model, she was picked up by Ford Modeling agency and has since rocked the runway for Abaete, Betsey Johnson, Cynthia Steffe, Heatherette, Tracy Reese. It seems that she may have transitioned into plus sized modeling, and we think that is just swell! Full of character and personality, we absolutely love what Sabina Karlsson has to offer. Hoping to see more of her fire engine kinks in the future!

Justin Bieber puts a nail in it!

January 27, 2011 § Leave a comment

As if the world is not already at his fingertips, Justin Bieber nails it again by adding eight additional shades to his One More Lonely Girl nail polish collection by OPI. Incase you don’t remember why Bieber is creating nail polishes, the idea was birthed TO increase donations to Pencils of Promise, a charity focused on building schools in underdeveloped countries.  Awww bieber, how sweet! With Bieberish colors ranging from dark, sultry I’ve got Bieber Fever (plum) to vibrant, springy My Lifesaver (mint green). Adding a dose of hollywood glam to wintertime and  a radiating glow for spring. How fun!

Vagabond style: A structured mess

Vagabond mixed with a dose of sexy. Layers upon layers of seemingly mismatched items paired with ease, formulating the perfect ensemble of madness. Just enough right on the cusp of too much makes the look what it is. From the runway to the street, men and women alike have embraced the look. Hats, scarves, cardigans, boots, those who attempt it can’t be bashful, but strategy is key.

Some pull it off effortlessly, others not so much.  It may look haphazard, disheveled, or any other word you want to substitute for messy, but the foundation of the look is built on structure. Even with all the component, the final product is a perfectly harmonious combination of mystery.

This last shot goes back a couple of season, but it truly speaks to vagabond style. Missoni has been showing us how it’s done for a while now.

Transfixing the modeling world with her luscious mane, full facial features, and chiseled face shape, Jordan Richardson is proving to be a force to be reckoned with. Hailing from Norfolk Virginia, this 5’9” beauty has been featured in advertising campaigns for Gap, Abercrombie & Fitch, United Colors of Benetton, and H&M. We love her face, heart her hair, and are excited to see what the future holds for this burgeoning sensation. As there is not much information on her, we will substitute with some fab photos. Gotta love this natural sister, rocking a fierce fro!

Model Monday: Sessilee Lopez

January 17, 2011 § Leave a comment

Her tantalizing sepia tinged complexion, haunting dark brown eyes, and finely wrought pout are sure to propel Sessile Lopez from model to supermodel status. Doted on for her androgynous looks, Sessilee, a Philadelphia native, but Dominican to the core, had a childhood dream of modeling that came into fruition after years of prodding her single parent mother to allow her to model. In support of Sessilee’s dream, her mother sold their house and moved the family to New York City, in order for her daughter to get an amazing opportunity to begin her career in a fashion Mecca.

Her first momentous event arose in 2004 when Sessilee was signed to IMG Models, one of the top modeling agencies in the world. Shortly afterwards, she was cast for CK One Fragrance, which put her in a place that the modeling world could not ignore and she secured a slew of high-profile runway shows in 2005, including Zac Posen, Karl Lagerfeld and Emporio Armani. Followed by the publications Vogue Italia, New York Times Style Magazine, and Harper’s Bazaar.

Sessilee overcame her personal insecurities about her looks, stemming from skin problems and having a drastically darker complexion than her sisters, one of them her twin, to reach her goal. It is interesting that she wanted to be in the beauty industry, though she struggled to find the beauty in herself. Now, her untraditional looks can serve as a reminder to other young women that there are no standards for beauty.

Sessilee is also often compared to Grace Jones.  “A lot of people say that I remind them of Grace Jones, which is an honor for me because she is an amazing woman.” However, because Sessilee is of Dominican descent, this is somewhat surprising to her “Fashion is very black and white. It doesn’t pay attention to heritage much. They don’t see me as a Dominican girl, they just see the color of my skin.” In a comparison such as this, we aren’t sure that ethnicity matters. If you look like someone, then you look like someone, plain and simple. However, we agree with her logic. It would be nice to be boxed into categories that truly define who we are, versus being subject to the physical limitations of skin color.

Embrace the blaze: Redheads are on fire

January 12, 2011 § Leave a comment

Redheads are everywhere. They’re buzzing about like fireflies, flaunting stand out, luscious locks. They’re breezing around wearing the color of dominance with the bold, confident, look at me attitudes.

RiRi is flaming just a little bit too bright for our tastes, but hey, style is all about the individual. Do you, girl! From short and sassy, to long and wavy, she’s embraced the crimson look and made it her own.

Miss Khloe Kardashian is muted and understated, but drastically different from the beautiful chocolate locks we’re so accustomed to. Nonetheless, it was a divine look for Khloe at the People’s Choice Awards. Head to toe. Change is good. We’re doing some new things with our looks too.

And how can you forget about Jessica Rabbit herself, or formally Christina Hendricks. She sets hearts on fire with her body and her beautiful head of red hair. She makes looking good look SO easy.

Couldn’t resist the split screen photo. Childhood memories of Who Framed Roger Rabbit are now invading your thoughts, right?

Love it or hate, it looks like the red heads are trending, so expect to see more popping up around you.

Where Am I?
